McLean Taylor Construction Ltd. has submitted a $1.5 million proposal for the complete design and reconstruction of the St. Marys Opera House. This is for the conversion of the building into a 17 unit complex with space for three or four retail stores on the ground floor. This price does not include the cost of the central peak of the building. It was estimated by McLean Taylor that this would cost an additional $24,000.
There will be no closure of rural post offices and no reduction of rural route mail delivery in the foreseeable future, says Perth Member of Parliament Harry Brightwell. The Canadian Foresters were busily engaged last week in moving the stable on the Ontario House property. Mr. W. Parkinson of London Twp. has the contract and, owing to the dilapidated condition of the sills, it is proving quite a job. Mr. Wm. Radcliffe was struck on the hand by a chain, breaking a finger, which was very painful. There were several narrow escapes when part of the frame collapsed of a truss. Wm. Knowles and John Knox were pinned under a sill and only that it caught on the old scales would have undoubtedly have proved a fatal accident. As it was they escaped with some scratches and bruises.
