Feds owe little to car makers
Re: Chrysler layoffs no quick fix, Terry Miller Nov. 16.

I agree that it is very unfortunate that it has come down to a large-scale layoff for workers at Chrysler, but it is not right just to point fingers at the federal government in this matter. While I certainly don't agree with all policies of any current government, I think what they are doing here is appropriate. Think about it. Why make taxpayers pay for a product that the taxpayers don't want and therefore don't buy?

That's exactly what subsidizing Chrysler would be doing.

Honda and Toyota for example, keep gaining market share because they make products that people want (modern, reliable and fuel efficient vehicles). Chrysler doesn't stand out strongly here. While their vehicles may have nice styling, their line up offers no diesel or hybrid options--nothing that really stands out for fuel efficiency.

The market speaks for itself and Chrysler (and GM and Ford for that matter) would be smart to be cognizant of this when they design and build future products for the market place.

Make a product that can really compete where it is in demand, and that will be the best way to keep any employees in their jobs.
