NO NEWS! True, we have had no kidnappers and no gangsters in our midst, no riots and no feuds; no gold mind discovered and no consequent swift entry to fame. And still there wave been happy little gatherings of neighbours with the wholesome exchange of ideas and some too, are bravely facing difficulties and endeavouring to overcome obstacles of which only they themselves are aware; and a few are enduring weakness and pain, looking forward hopefully to summer days again. Our churches hold their regular Sunday services with the pastors delivering carefully prepared and thoughtful messages and our school is well-filled with girls and boys, each in the quest for knowledge under the guidance of a very capable teacher. Thus, life’s pattern is woven in many a rural community and we have reason to be very grateful for an absence of much which makes news of the front page of our daily papers. (Motherwell)
