The St. Marys Lincolns have their sights set on a winning season and a Western Jr. B. Hockey League play-off berth. But they’ll have to do it without Adam McLean, named most valuable player in the league last season. The Woodstock native has received a full scholarship package from the University of Alabama-Huntsville in Huntsville, Alabama.

Carl Zovonkin, a teacher at the St. Marys DCVI appears in The Sound of Music at Huron Playhouse until Sept. 7.
Friends and members of the St. Marys Baptist Tabernacle marked the 50th year of ministry on a recent Sunday. At the morning service, five charter members were honoured with corsages. They were: Mary Northgrave, Gladys Bage, Fanny McAllister, Mary Landford and Marion Chittick. The Tabernacle began as an independent effort by a handful of students and under the evangelical zeal of Pastor De Lose Scott, set the pattern that has been the hallmark of the church. By 1939, the congregation was able to purchase and renovate the Perth County Registry office on Robinson Street.
The deteriorating condition of the 106-year-old Opera House was one of seven issues affecting downtown development – also the need for available industrial land, and it was noted that some people have been calling for a new recreational centre were concerns of council and mentioned in Donal O’Connor’s column.
50 years ago – 1960
We See: That when the corner house in Prospect Hill was put on the auction block, the structure brought just $185. It was sold to Milton Ulch of Kirkton and will be removed from the site to make way for straightening and improvement of the No. 7 Highway curve, which has been a dangerous blind spot for years.
A crowd estimated at 2,500 jammed the Quarry Ball Park for the revised version of the St. Marys Band Tattoo. Nine bands and a majorette corps from Kitchener-Waterloo paraded from the Town Hall. Les Skipper was MC.
Notice – All Pupils not previously registered in St. Marys Public School System will please register on Opening Day at the Central School regardless of Grade. Pupils must bring books on Opening Day. 75 years ago – 1935
Almost 30 members of the St. Marys Horticultural Society motored to the neat little village of Kirkton to spend a pleasant half-hour in the beautiful and well-kept garden of Dr. Campbell. When the Doctor’s attractive display of gladioli were admired, it was then on toe Mount Pleasant Church and School, and on to the farm of Mr. Arthur Cole. Then it was on to Roy’s Church and the Fullarton Horticultural Society’s annual flower show.

100 years ago – 1910
Owing to continued rowdyism and trespassing by loafers and youths, Miss Mina Hutton has been compiled to close Hutton’s Park for the balance of this season at least. (News About Town)
Mr. W. H. Judd of St. Marys, who secured the contract of painting Salem Church, commenced work on Monday. The reopening will probably take place in a month. (Berrylands)
The meeting of the Kirkton Women’s Institute will be held at Aberdeen Hall. Miss Florence Birtch of St. Marys will give an address on "What we learn by attending the MacDonald Instituted, Guelph." All leaders are cordially invited to attend.
