“Idle Free” signs have been purchased by the Town of St. Marys and are expected to be installed in four locations recommended by the Town’s Green Committee: Little Falls Public School, Holy Name of Mary Catholic School, the post office on Wellington Street, and the Town-operated childcare centre in the old West Ward school.
This information was revealed in the minutes of a Green Committee meeting Jan. 3, provided as information for this week’s Town Council meeting on Tuesday.
The Jan. 3 minutes explain that eight signs — at a cost of $69 apiece — have been purchased: one for each road direction in four locations. “The Town will charge the Green Committee to attach the signs in locations to be proposed by the Green Committee,” the minutes explain.
The idle-free initiative has been on the radar for the committee for a couple of years. Late last year, Councillor Carey Pope — Town Council’s representative on the committee — delivered the message to fellow councillors that the Green Committee had expressed disappointment at the slow progress in the initiative.
The purchase of the signs is within the budget allocated to the Green Committee in the town’s budget.
