The Ashton Tire Hawks defeated the Adanac Images Flyers 8-2 in a battle of Local League Peewee teams Friday night.
Campbell Leavitt was the big shooter for the Hawks with four goals, while Cole Fenton chipped in a pair. Michael Smith scored both Flyer goals.
•Centre Breanna Thomson fired a hat trick Friday night, sparking the Landscaping Atom girls to a 4-1 victory over the Stratford Aces.
•In a lopsided affair Friday night, the Home Building Centre A-E Peewees walked all over their Petrolia counterparts, 15-1.
Captain Connor Topp paced the St. Marys offence with four goals and two assists, while fellow centreman Travis Mann clicked for three goals and one assist. Tyler Clark chipped in a pair of goals.
•The ANAF ‘BB’ Bantams skated to a well-deserved 5-2 win over Mitchell Meteors Friday night.
Brandon Shamblaw scored twice for the Rock, and Eric Leslie contributed a goal and an assist.
“We had a little more passion tonight,” coach Ken Schiedel commented. “We were stronger on our sticks tonight, and we got the puck out of our zone better.”
•Christian Ritchie fired the game winner with just 36 seconds remaining, lifting the Ford Novice Red Wings to an exciting, come-from-behind 6-5 victory over Mt. Brydges Cougars Saturday.
Goalie Jayden Rooney was solid for the Wings, who got a pair of goals from Jake Weston.
•Goaltender Mackenzie Gotts helped the Norampac Peewee girls gain a comeback 3-3 tie with the Stratford Aces Saturday. She made a huge, game-saving stop with just 36 seconds left on the clock.
Coach Maggie Dann described Gotts’ netminding as “awesome.”
Mackenzie Powell propelled the St. Marys offence with two goals and one assist.
•Sam Sedley fired a breakaway goal while being hauled down, helping the Rotary Tyke Flames defeat the Rotary Tyke Senators 4-1 Saturday.
•Mia Valcke’s third goal of the contest, with just 1:31 left to play, gave the Styles by Sam Novice Sharks a 4-3 win over Stratford Aces Saturday. Valcke also earned an assist for a four-point game.
•Lakin Hillman had the hat trick for the Rotary Tyke Canucks in a 7-2 victory Saturday over the Rotary Tyke Oilers.
•Defenceman Makayla Lewis and forward Rebecca Cumming each scored twice for the McPhail’s Bantam girls in a convincing 7-1 regular-season win over St. Thomas Saturday.
•In possibly the best game of the entire weekend, the Independent Grocer ‘BB’ Atoms dropped a tight 1-0 decision to their Lambeth counterparts Saturday afternoon.
It was an exciting, hard-fought game between two evenly-matched teams. Lambeth got a fortunate bounce on the game’s only goal, and St. Marys was unlucky on several occasions.
•Forwards Nicole Barber and Brittany Sterkenburg each scored twice for the Hubbard Pharmacy Midgets in a 4-3 victory over Seaforth Saturday night. Stacey Frayne helped out with a pair of assists.
Sterkenburg fired the winner with 1:44 to play.
•In Under-20 Rec. League hockey Sunday, the Red squad defeated the White 7-2 in the first game. In the second game, the Blue team defeated White 8-5.
Norm Coulthard was the MVP for the two games, scoring a total of six goals—including four in the second contest.
