TORONTO - St. Marys was well-represented at the all-Canadian Aquafina Pitch, Hit & Run contest held in the Rogers Centre Sunday following the Toronto Blue Jays Major League game versus the Philadelphia Phillies.
Hayden Moore finished second overall in the 9-10 age category, Jaxon Valcke was fourth in the 11-12 age category, and Jared Zufelt grabbed third in the 13-14 age category.
Zufelt had the longest hit of the day, bashing one more than 250 feet that drew applause from the 500 fans in attendance.
Moore is a former winner at this Canadian event.
•Dominic and Barb Lucci, of Kitchener, won the annual Mixed Invitational Saturday at St. Marys Golf and Country Club.
A total of 108 golfers took part. Other winners were as follows:
Toni and Joan Arts (low net), Same and Kim Gowing (low gross ‘A’ Flight), Jim and Pat Craigmile (‘B’ Flight) and Rod and Bonnie Betteridge (‘C’ Flight).
Next big tourney at St. Marys G&CC is the annual Memorial Hospital event on Thursday, July 9. The Coca-Cola men’s invitational is Saturday, July 25.
•As part of Courage Canada, in-line skater Mark DeMontis is coming to the Pyramid Recreation Centre this Saturday, July 4.
DeMontis is a 22-year-old who is travelling across Canada on his in-line skates in an effort to raise awareness and funds for Courage Canada that supports blind athletes.
DeMontis is going to be joining the public roller skating on Saturday between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.
•As they have for many years, the Shrine Camel Coach Unit from London has donated to the St. Marys Minor Soccer Association.
Earlier this week, Past president Vic Hearn, first vice-president Wayne Smith and fellow Shriners Bob McGregor and Bill McKay presented a cheque for $250 to SMSA president Wim Snoek.
