This Friday, Nov. 6, St. Marys Lincolns will wear special jerseys to mark Remembrance Day and recognize our troops currently overseas.
Providing the opposition at the Pyramid Centre will be the first-place London Nationals (16-1-1).
Fans, meanwhile, can place bids on these special jerseys, and the final auction will be held Fri., Nov. 20 after the Strathroy game in the PRC’s upper lobby. Other Lincs’ memorabilia, including old jerseys, will also be auctioned off that night.
Proceeds from the sweater/memorabilia auction will go to the local Legion’s Poppy Fund.

•Lincolns’ players have been helping out with teams in the St. Marys minor system.
This past Saturday morning, forwards Brent Rae, Darren Young, Connor McFarlane and Paul Thompson were on the ice for three consecutive hours, assisting on-ice coaches with the Tykes and Mites.
Lincs’ Josh McDonald, captain Anthony Soboczynski, Steve Chisholm and goalie Marc Nother recently helped out with the Novice girls and Novice ‘BB’ boys team.
SMMHA president Don Gibson says it’s something that the Jr. B players will continue to do this season at the various age levels in minor hockey.

•Lincolns went 5-4-1 in their 10 games in October.
•Lincs have been bit by the injury bug in the last couple of weeks.
Ryan Davidson (upper body), Mike Villamere (lower body), Connor McFarlane (lower body) and Ian McIntosh (concussion) sat out the two games this past weekend.
Forward Calvin Penney was called up from the Cement ‘BB’ Midgets for Friday’s game, and centre Brady Wiffen dressed for Lincolns Sunday night in Chatham and scored one of the two St. Marys goals. Wiffen is a member of the Huron-Perth ‘AAA’ Minor Midget Lakers.

•Coach Merlin Malinowski was very impressed with how Wiffen, 15, played in his first Junior game Sunday in Chatham.
“The kid played well,” Malinowski said. “Chatham played strong, and they’re fast, and Brady did not look out of place.
“He’s got intelligence, he’s got great hockey sense and good hands. I had no problem putting him on the ice in any situation, and he was our best face-off man tonight. I was so glad he got the goal.”

•Centre Seth Griffith was honoured as Lincs’ player-of-the-month for September before last Friday’s game.
The 16-year-old London Knights’ draft pick had six goals and 10 points in seven games. Three of Griffith’ goals came on powerplays, and he also had a game winner.

—Lincolns’ Halloween dress-up winners last Friday night were: Mike Bannon (first prize), Sam Bolton (second prize), and MacKenzie Ballantyne (third prize).

—Defenceman Sam Patterson, who played for Lincs this past weekend, is currently on a 10-game tryout with the green, white and blue.
The 18-year-old Londoner played last season with St. Thomas, and started this year with the Stars. St. Marys GM Warren Nye picked him up off waivers for cash.
Patterson is a non-import to the Lincolns because he once played for Thamesford Trojans of the Southern Ontario Junior Hockey League.
The 5 ft., 11 inch, 170 lb. Patterson had no points in five games with the Stars this season. He had over 100 penalty minutes with St. Thomas a year ago.
Patterson is a product of the London Jr. Knights ‘AAA’ program.

—Sarnia coach Jeff Perry says the defending champion Legionnaires lost a lot of firepower from a year ago, and this year’s team has to play well defensively and keep games “low-scoring” in order to win.
“We’ve probably lost six of our top forwards from last year’s team,” Perry said before last Friday’s game in St. Marys.
“We’re one of those teams that’s going to have to play a lot of 3-2, 2-1 games. In our last seven or eight games, we’ve been in those games because we’ve played well defensively.”
Perry added that the teams from second to seventh place in the Western Conference “are all pretty equal and it makes for a good league.”

—Tavistock Braves are holding their 40th anniversary Alumni Night this Friday, Nov. 6. The Southern Ontario Junior League Hockey League club plays Delhi, starting at 8:30 p.m.
All alumni present will honoured that evening, there will be memorabilia from the past 40 seasons on display, and there will be 40th anniversary hats and t-shirts available to purchase.
The upper hall will be open where the memorabilia will be displayed. All alumni are asked to introduce themselves at the front door when they get there for their free entry into the game, and then to sign the guest book.
If you have any other questions, please e-mail Brad Reibling at jbreibling@rogers.com. Reibling is the Braves’ president this season.
