Parade preparations are under way for the Friday night, July 2, with Bob Sass making contact with the Kinsmen and out-of-town bands.
Town groups are encouraged to represent themselves with a float. Families may even put in a showing. It is a perfect time to trim a bicycle, dress up a pet or put greatgrandma and the grandkids on a float to represent your family’s history in the Stonetown.
Blue and white are the colours and Jan Parkinson is busy making hundreds of big beautiful bows that will be available at $5 each in the spring. Plan to festoon your home with bows… even think about blue and white flower beds.
Sharon and Lou Hunter and their committee have high school reunion plans well on the way for Saturday morning, July 3.
A Facebook page is being created by Tori Parkinson and it will soon be up and running. Check the website, www.stmaryshomecoming.ca, for updates.
Committee members are  selling 50-50 tickets and the “big pot” is increasing with every book of tickets sold. It could top $2,000 if all tickets are sold. Tickets are available at Cascade Cleaners and at the Journal Argus. Watch for ticket sellers at various events in the near future until the draw at closing ceremonies on Sunday, July 4.
Major events are falling into place; any group requiring a town location, such as the Pyramid Centre, Lind Sportplex or town hall should  notify Laurel (519-348- 9554) or Barb (519-284-1149) before Feb. 1, so any of these “frozen”  locations can be booked or released back to the town for their use. Groups planning on using other locations for their Homecoming events need to let Laurel and Barb know so they are placed on the program and in advertising.
Who can forget some of the memories of Homecomings past: the Italian barbecue, bed races, dancing to Helix, the car rally, the musical Grease, memorabilia in store windows, ecumenical church services, beer tents, Stonetown trivia quiz, and a look back at businesses.
This town celebration happens only once every 10 years. Call, write or email to invite friends and family from near and far.
We have so many changes to show off in St. Marys from the last 10 years and we are so proud of our heritage of stone and the things that haven’t changed. Make your invites and help us throw a party to remember!
